THE MARBLE MUSE by Diane Baia Hale
Rome, Italy—1858: Pioneering American female sculptor Louisa Lander has always dreamed of an artistic career, but the stigma of being a woman in her field has made the going hard. When famed author Nathaniel Hawthorne visits Rome and commissions a bust from her, she thinks her luck has turned. Hawthorne’s motives, however, may not be quite what they seem. She has no idea where her relationship with the celebrity creator of The Scarlet Letter will lead her, nor the price she will pay because rival sculptor William Wetmore Story feels that the commission should have gone to him. Based on a true story.
