What happens to a spirit that is not ready to leave the living world? Hurt, angry, and unable to rest, she searches for a passage into the next realm. Material Conversations | A Sculptural Investigation Meets a Performing Body is a love letter to Kpelle storytelling and Japanese Kaidan stories, and to the spirits of those who never made the violent crossing of the Atlantic, whose stories and departures remain unresolved. Is this why we are ‘weathering’ at higher rates?
