The 2nd Annual Los Angeles Jewish Playwriting Contest is a one-of-a-kind event that blends a TED Talk, live play readings, and a little American Idol – and it all comes down to your vote. Join us for an evening of Artistic Democracy and help select the best new Jewish play of 2026!

This year’s finalist plays by women are:

  • Flatbush Lysistrata by Lila Rachel Becker: Three Hasidic women meet at an axe-throwing bar to plan a sex strike
  • A Play About a Baby Carrot by Juliet Roll : An absurdist shiva comedy about grief and unexpected connection

Also a finalist is This Place Stinks by Jacob Surovsky: A bold retelling of Noah’s story; Jonah Platt will be playing Noah

Directed by Illana Stein and Jeremy Aluma, hosted by Stein, and featuring a fantastic cast including Jonah Platt, Lauren Schaffel, Juliette Goglia, Ali Stoner, Rory Kulz, Daniel Lench, Laura Gardner, Emily Nash, Amir Levi, Beth Lane, Yahm Steinberg, and Allison Youngberg.

Produced in partnership with Holocaust Museum LA and featuring Jonah Platt as Honorary Producer, co-produced by Jeremy Aluma, Melanie Anthony, Matthew Bohrer, Rachel Berney Needleman, Emily Nash, and Jacob Surovsky. Community partners include The Braid, The Road Theatre Company, and The Last Acting Studio, with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
