HUMANITAS Presents: The 3rd Annual ​​PLAY LA Festival

PLAY LA was created in 2015 to lend its support to local playwrights based in Greater Los Angeles including Ventura County, Orange County, and the Inland Empire. Every year, PLAY LA develops up to five new plays written by early to mid-career writers interested in creating stage works from the ground up.

The focus of PLAY LA is to develop new plays in an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect. HUMANITAS strives to give PLAY LA members all the tools they need to create compelling plays and to extend their network of relationships into the broader Los Angeles community of theatres. 2018 Plays written by women are:

But can around-the-clock scrutiny and intense domestic dissection change the household dynamic? What does it mean to be Better?​

Based on true events, CUT tells the story of Jackeline Mwende, an African woman who is forced to hire a man she doesn’t know for sex in hopes to get pregnant. When her husband discovers this, however, he brutally cuts Jackeline, in ways none of us will ever forget.​
