La Mirtilla

A world-premiere staged reading directed by Marylin Winkle.

Seventeen years before the first performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1605), Isabella Andreini dedicated her pastoral drama, La Mirtilla (1588), to Lady Lavinia della Rovere. Yet, there is no evidence that this work has ever been performed! Andreini represents many shades of love in a comedic tapestry that stands out from other pastorals with its moments of gravity that resonate with today’s #metoo movement.

The staged reading (in English, translated by Dr. Julie Campbell) will be accompanied by  live sixteenth-century music by female composers performed by L.A. Camerata players.

FEATURING: Jim Boelsen, Corryn Cummins, Burt Grinstead, Matthew Hancock, Amy K. Harmon, Donnie Smith, Anna Stromberg

Special Valentine’s Day reception to follow.

L.A. Camerata strives to tell the stories of women and “others” silenced throughout history through music and drama, resurrecting live voices on stage. Performances highlight works by early-modern women from across the world.
