What Instigators are Saying . . .

LA FPI Instigators are having our say…  If you are also an instigator, please add your comment below:

“Women of the LAFPI, a shout out to you!  Your insights, humor, courage and fortitude in this, our first year, has kept me plugged in to what I must do — what WE will continue to do:  write plays and get them produced!  I did a quick tally of two of the months of plays I compiled from the LA Weekly listings.  Men outnumber women between 2:1 and 3:1.  Keep writing.  Keep submitting.  KEEP MAKING NOISE. And now I’ll close with the quote I use at the bottom of my emails, which is from Robert Henri, ‘Do not let the fact that things are not made for you, that conditions are not as they should be, stop you. Go on anyway. Everything depends on those who go on anyway.'” Nancy Beverly

“The LAFPI website is a great way to connect with other playwrights in the LA area.  Their newsletter contains up-to-date information about submissions and other useful links for playwrights.”  — Ester Elliott

“The first year of LA FPI has been so cool.  I’m in awe at all you generous and talented writers whose main goal here is to support female playwrights and help give us an equal shot at getting our plays produced in Southern California.  And next year will be even better as the LA FPI study is released the FPI agents act as liaisons with some theaters so that we can work with them to try and achieve our goals.”  — Debbie Bolsky

“I’m proud to be part of an amazing group of women working hard to raise awareness of the issues facing female playwrights whose work is not being developed or produced on par with their male counterparts in L.A. and beyond.” — Janice Kennedy

The meeting last Sunday was wonderful.  Such good female energy, such intelligent and generous professional women to be around.  I came out of there happy to work for and be a part of this much needed organization.  I appreciate you all.” — Jean Colonomos

  1. I am excited to be a part of such an important group, to enable the voices of amazing and talented females to be heard, and to promote theater in and around Los Angeles. Theater is a uniquely vital, social and community based art form and I’m honored to be doing what I can to help feed the fire.
