Deborah Brevoort’s The Women of Lockerbie

Winner of The Critics’ Choice Award, Better Lemons Double Sweet Award, HFF 18 Encore  Award and the grand prize winner of The Indie Voice Theatre Award.

From the moment actor/producer Leah Verrill saw a production of Deborah Brevoort’s The Women of Lockerbie last fall in Massachusetts, she knew she wanted to bring it to Los Angeles, more specifically to Fringe. What she experienced was a beautiful and brilliantly written play about grief and how love can prevail, a message she knew she needed to share. As such, Little Earthquakes Ensemble will bring The Women of Lockerbie to studio/stage this JULY 21 as part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival ENCORE AWARD series.

A modern Greek tragedy about the triumph of love over hate, The Women of Lockerbie is a poetic play about a mother from New Jersey who roams the hills of Lockerbie, Scotland looking for her son’s remains, which were lost in the crash of Pan Am Flight 103. She meets the women of Lockerbie, who are fighting the U.S. government to obtain the clothing of the victims found in the plane’s wreckage.

Determined to convert an act of hatred into an act of love, the women want to wash the clothes of the dead and return them to the victim’s families. Ernest Kearney from The TVolution said of this production “His cast serves the drama excellently,” Rob Leggett from Indie Voice called it “the best thing we have seen at Fringe thus far, truly worthy of the Top of the Fringe award.” Bob Rich from Gia on The Move said it was “Astute and touching. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED”

The Fringe production will star Verrill (“Masters of Sex,” “The Master,” “The Package”), along with Lisa K. Wyatt (“The Office,” “Donnie Darko,” “”Superstore”), Alan Heitz (“This is Us,” “Two Broke Girls,” “Agents of Shield”), Ed Ackerman (“Hatchet 2,” “Trial & Error,” “Hot in Cleveland”), Eloise Coopersmith, Liz Fenning and Liesl Jackson. Heading up the production is director Jim Blanchette (It Came From Beyond, The Best of Albuquerque Fringe 2025, White Trash Wedding and a Funeral).
