Fans of military drama, heartfelt pathos, and thought-provoking theater will delight in this new, stunning addition to the Theater of War genre. Playwrights MATTHEW DOMENICO and KATHERINE CONNOR DUFF are proud to present the world premiere of The Foxhole Stories: Twist, Pull, Smoke, Run-Motherfucker-Run! to the 2018 Hollywood Fringe Festival.

The Foxhole Stories is a play series that encompasses every phase of the American-Veteran experience for the stage.

Based on a school assignment from a college class, Domenico reached out to two Marines from his former unit and interviewed them about their experience acclimating back into the civilian world. These two conversations inspired this play. Twist, Pull, Smoke, Run-Motherfucker-Run! is a story of a war veteran who repeatedly dodges his girlfriend Leah’s questions about Afghanistan. He is continuously haunted by his PTSD, who he finally decides to talk to. From Veteran to dependent alike, this project is driven by a cast that has all been touched personally by the Military community. Twist, Pull, Smoke, Run-Motherfucker-Run! demonstrates the difficulty of living with PTSD and the naked brutality and ultimate humanity of a combat veteran’s mind.

Quotes
“In recent times, it’s up to the artists to make people aware of sometimes long-time chronic problems that just won’t make it on the evening news. It’s been refreshing that certain artists have stepped up to the plate to show us pieces that educate us. I hope at the end of this that we made the audience think. I hope that we’ve made them go home to draw their own conclusions, that we haven’t shoved an agenda down their throats. I don’t feel like that’s what we’re doing. I hope that what we’re doing is the art of exposure and not the art of propaganda. I don’t think we come at this with any kind of agenda other than please understand what these boys and girls have gone through. Please give them their respect and please help them reintegrate back into life. That’s my hope for the piece.” – CHRIS GAME

“I am so thankful Katherine decided to take on this journey with me and push me to complete this play,” says Domenico. “As a writer, she has an eye for unfolding characters, creating archs, and developing dialogue. She has helped elevate this work to an emotional and compelling piece.” – MATTHEW DOMENICO

“I began working on this play with Matthew two years ago. I knew immediately that I wanted in. We address aspects of the veteran experience that have never been addressed before and I was beyond excited to help bring this project to the stage. Matthew and I spent hours mining his personal experiences and I thank him for his candor and openness in working with me to create this piece. The veteran community is an overlooked minority in our country because it is now a minority by choice. That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be heard.” – KATHERINE CONNOR DUFF

“When it comes to the Theater of War genre, what makes us standout from everybody else is that we are giving the veteran community its’ representation onstage. Before us, I believe military works were produced for civilians and later people asked the veteran community for authenticity. What we’re doing is writing military works for veterans first, and then later asking civilians if they understood it. These plays, in my eyes, do not belong to me alone. They belong to the active duty and veteran community. Their voices need to be heard. Let us now give them that chance.” – MATTHEW DOMENICO

“When I first met Matthew and Brock, we instantly made a connection. When they were explaining to me what they had been working on and what their thoughts and feelings were toward the project, I knew instantly that I wanted to help. There has not been a day where I have not been excited to help put this show together. This is one of many stories that need to be told in a true light. I hope that we can create shows that give the voices back to so many veterans and their families.” -JOSEPH KING
