This absurd, twisting, physical solo show set in an art museum is written and performed by comedian Molly McLean. McLean parodies educators’ struggles to communicate to laypeople.  

McLean, a character and standup performer, acts as an enthusiastic curator, taking the audience through ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary art. The character fails to teach anyone anything, though she may try. The curator’s attitude is a mix of the confident idiocy of Philomena Cunk and the goofy slapstick of Mr. Bean. 

In each exhibit in the gallery, McLean has different jokes that reflect the way humans think, or don’t, about art. She parodies the intensity of people’s work, their ego, and the way we think of history.

Molly McLean is a performer, writer, and director. She performs monthly at UCB as part of their Betty character team. Her new immersive play, Karaoke Night, will be at the Elysian Theater’s Spaghetti Festival this July.

“As an educator, artist, and fan, I find talking about art difficult and silly. I wrote this play to make fun of that,” McLean writes.
